Time to Bead tm as closed their doors. I guess it shows

Why shop at your local bead
store?
Do you remember the feeling
you got when you first walked into a beads store? Was it awe and
wonder? Did your jaw drop? Were you elated at the variety and how
much money you could save by making your own jewelry, gifts or
something to match an outfit? Or maybe you just needed to make
something to match an outfit? Whatever the feeling was, is it even
close to the feeling you get shopping on-line or at the mass
merchants?
Your local bead stores have created a place where people of all ages
and diversity, with a variety of artistic styles can find the tools,
components and the skills necessary to help you further your passion
for your art.
In our area around Indianapolis we have several great bead stores,
such as Beads Amore’, Boca Loca and Bead Boutique.
All of these stores strive to keep adequate supplies, a nice variety
of products and a helpful staff. They offer classes, give hands on
help and try to answer all your questions. Can you get that personal
help on-line or at the discount and craft stores?
Upon occasion you may find some items you need on-line at lower
price. A few months back I did a comparison of the cost of creating
a Mother’s Bracelet.
I compared buying all your components at Fire
Mountain and at our store. The savings was of almost 50%
when created with our components of the same or better quality. When
you have to buy 200 of something you don’t need that many of just to
get a lower price on those items, then you end up creating something
that costs you more than it should have. With the cost of gas as it
is, the five or more dollars you are spending for shipping could
easily get you to and from your local bead store.
With the economy in the state that it is in all of the local
merchants in our area need all the business you can give them to
stay in business. Local businesses including bead stores are
taxpayers and providing jobs in your local community. In the last
year Indianapolis has lost eight crafting businesses and in the US
over 10% of the bead stores are no longer around.
Some of you who read this will interpret that this is a sign that we
are going out of business. That is far from the case. We are in it
for the long haul. But if the economy worsens then we will tighten
our belts more and not be able to provide the kind of assistance,
variety of products, extended hours, highly qualified staff, and
vast assortment of classes that you are used to. When you shop at
the mass merchants and on-line you rarely get the quality, variety
and price, and almost never get the knowledge that comes from you
local bead stores.
